Beau was the winner of this year’s FLUFFuary session giveaway. His mom, Amber, recruited many votes to help him win his very own pet portrait session at my studio. Beauregard is the very first Saint Bernard I have gotten to work with. He was a sweet giant who just wanted to be close to people. You definitely have to be ok with some drool when signing up for this breed, but their personalities make it completely worth it!

Get to know Beauregard of House Chuhy, Prince of Goddard:

Where did you get him? I rescued Beau from a local rescue group. I believe strongly in rescuing animals and happened to come across his puppy picture on Petfinder. I wasn’t looking for a Saint Bernard or a pure bred dog but he found me!
How old was he when you brought him home? Beau was 4 months old when I brought him home. Just a little guy.
How did you choose his name? Beau’s full name is actually: Beauregard of House Chuhy, Prince of Goddard. I love Game of Thrones and it seemed fitting for such a regal breed.
How old is he now? He is 3.5 yrs old as of May 2021.
What 3 words would you use to describe his personality? Sweet, goofy, and a little dopey.
What is his favorite toy? He isn’t much into toys as an adult. He loves bones and the highly digestible, vet recommended rawhide alternatives.
What do you enjoy doing together? Watching tv and lounging around, lol. He also loves to watch over me as I work on my garden.
A favorite memory of him or a hard time that he helped you get through? When he was a puppy, he would run up to me whenever he wanted comfort, praise, or love…he would run and sit between my legs and look up at me. He continued this well into his adolescence and it was hilarious because soon enough, he couldn’t fit between, under my legs anymore. He sure tried. He has no concept of his size. Now, he settles for a good hind end scratch.
Why is it meaningful to have professional images of him? I had amateur photos taken of my senior dog a couple years before he passed away and those photos mean the world to me. I wanted to have some for Beau as well because unfortunately, Saints do not live long. Also, Beau is considered a “special needs” dog – he suffers from a mild case of cerebellar hypoplasia. He is an ambassador for rescue, the breed, and special needs dogs everywhere.
What stood out to you about your experience with Rebecca? She was so professional and incredibly flexible. Taking pet photos is not always easy and Beau certainly made it tough at moments. Rebecca rolled with it and took her time, getting to know Beau and letting him guide the shoot to some degree. It was exactly what he needed to get into model mode. I can not recommend her enough. The photos she took are stunning and mean so much to me!
