Baby Morgan. Including Your Cat in Newborn Photos. Toledo Ohio Photography.

I do not photograph newborns regularly. I often refer those inquiries to other local photographers who specialize in working with newborns. I enjoy trying something new and being creatively challenged so I offered to photograph Nick and Kristina’s little girl Morgan. You might remember this Sylvania couple from their winter wedding photos here. It has been very exciting to see their family grow and to get to document these special milestones.

Nick and Kristina have two cats, Oscar and Darby. Darby did her own thing while I was in the house taking photos but Oscar immediately came up to me and whined for attention when I arrived. He followed me the entire session and wanted to be the center of attention. Oscar got his wish and was included in some of the photos with his family. Check out more photos and my interview with Nick and Kristina below!

Get to know Kristina, Nick, Morgan and Oscar:

  • What did you (Kristina) enjoy most and least about being pregnant? What I enjoyed most was feeling all of the kicks and other movements. She would just go crazy at the mention of ice cream! Anytime I told Nick she was moving, I would have him try and feel and she would immediately stop.

What I least enjoyed was the extreme heartburn, 50 pound weight gain, gestational diabetes, and upper back pain. It all went away after birth though (still have 10 pounds yet to lose on that 50), and Morgan had a FULL head of hair so the heartburn was worth it!

  • What were you most excited about in regards to being a parents? For me I was most excited about having my own child to love and care for. I’ve always wanted a kid and I’ve loved a lot on my siblings’ kids over the years and now I have my own minion to love, teach, and learn from.

Nick was most excited about getting to watch her grow and learn from all the new things he’ll be showing her about. He was also very excited about watching her experience all of her firsts: first steps, first words, first time running down the hallway Christmas morning all excited and giggling.

  • What is your baby’s name and how did you choose it? Okay, don’t judge! Baby names are sooooo hard to come up with... For days Nick and I kept bouncing names off of each other, and one of us either knew someone with that name that we didn’t like, or just didn’t like that name in general. So, we went to one of those buzz feed quizzes. One of the questions asked who a favorite actor was. We both said Morgan Freeman, and went HEYYYYYyyyyyyy. So Morgan it was!

  • What has surprised you most about becoming a parent? How much joy she brings to our lives. Sure, she has crazy days where she wants to eat every hour and cries in between, but those are so few and far between. Every single morning, she greets me with the biggest smile and I melt all over again.

Nick: How much she has grown in such a short time. Being with her everyday you don't always notice how much she has grown. Then you see a picture of her from just a few weeks ago and it’s amazing how much has changed in just a few weeks.

  • How old was Morgan at the session? How old is Morgan now? I believe she was around 2 weeks old at the time of the session. She is 4 months old now.

  • Tell me a little about Oscar the cat and how he has adjusted to the baby. Oscar was my (Kristina’s) cat just about out of high school. My friend and I each took one of a litter from a farm in Michigan. Oscar and his brother (Digit) both have extra digits on each front paw. He is now a grumpy old man. Haha.

He’s jealous of the attention Morgan gets for sure. As soon as I pass off Morgan, he is instantly on me asking for cuddles. He is a little interested in her, but is not gung-ho just yet. We shall see what happens when she starts being able to walk and grab onto things!!

  • What did you love most about your experience with Rebecca? I loved working with someone I knew. I’m a very slow-to-warm-up kind of person so I usually appear stand-offish and unfriendly when I first meet someone. Ask Rebecca about when we first met! However, we became friends and she is just a wonderful person and a fantastic photographer.

Rebecca will work with you on whatever you need and was GREAT with Morgan. She takes everything into consideration when coming for a session. She even brought a small heater so that it was nice and toasty in the areas she took photos! She is also flexible with what you would like. I’m pretty sure I didn’t inform her of the outfit changes but she definitely worked with it!! I would write more, but then how would you get to learn about her yourself? That would take all of the fun right out of it.
