Ten Puppies Visit the Studio. Toledo Ohio Dog Rescue Portraits.
I always enjoy having puppies in the studio. As a pet photographer in Toledo, I am often looking for ways to challenge myself and become better at what I do. I try to work with all sizes, breeds and ages. Volunteering with a local animal rescue, Planned Pethood, has given me opportunities to photograph dogs who might present some challenges. Some rescue dogs are nervous about meeting new people, some have current health issues and many do not have formal training. If I stay patient and make them feel comfortable, I can document each dog despite their circumstances.
Eight-week-old puppies like this litter, have just begun discovering the world and rarely like to sit still. We use teamwork to pose and place the pups. If you scroll to the end, you can see a few photos of Daniel behind the scenes. I was very excited to use my new red backdrop to document these sweet babies. Read on to hear more about their foster’s experience hosting her first mama and litter!
Get to know foster, Amy:
How long have you been a foster? I've been fostering for 6 years.
What organization do you work with? Planned Pethood.
Tell me about your family. What do you and your husband do? How many kids, ages, names? Both me and my husband work full time. I work as an administrative assistant for an engineering company, my husband and his dad own their own business selling mobile home parts & accessories. We have 3 kids that live at home with us, Kendall (16), Trent (14), and Aubrey(9).
Why is fostering dogs important to you? Knowing that we're saving a life, and that a dog isn't sleeping on a cold floor in a shelter, that's why fostering is important.
How has fostering positively impacted your family? It has shown our youngest how to show compassion and how to treat animals. Plus it’s something that we can do together as a family.
What has been your hardest foster experience? Knowing that you can't save them all!
What was your most rewarding? Any dog that has come into our home and has been scared and nervous, and in just a matter of a few days, seeing them become a happier dog. Also, adopting Grandpa. He started out as a foster, and now he's my best friend, he's always by my side, knows my good days and my bad days!
Share how this specific foster experience, a mom with newborns, has been different. It's definitely been overwhelming! Having 10 puppies is a lot of work, I kept telling myself that it's only temporary! I know for next time though, if we would foster another mom and pups, that if the litter was big, we would definitely split it up!
What would you say to someone who might be considering fostering? it's not hard as you think it is! Yes, sometimes you do fall in love with dogs that come into your home which makes it harder to say good by, but at least you know they are going to a good family. AND then there are dogs, that you just can not wait to get adopted out!!!!
What stood out to you about your photography experience with Rebecca She was so patient, especially with 10 puppies!!! She's so friendly but professional too!! I have nothing but good things to say about her!!!!
