“I think one of my favorite things is seeing the transformation with each horse. From being shut down, skinny, dull looking to becoming full of life and personality. They put weight on and have shine in their coat. That’s one of the best feelings.”

“I was amazed by how efficient the process was for that great of a final product. The photo-taking process went very fast, which is I was a little worried might lower the quality afterwards, but the pictures turned out excellent. I’m not used to looking good in photos, but each photo that she took proved that it is possible for me to look good in photos.”
Natalie was on the go during her photoshoot, either crawling or walking with assistance, so I had to be ready and anticipate her movement. She was a joy to document because she is one of the happiest little girls I have known. (I might be a little biased because she is my niece, but now I have the photos to prove it!)
Imagine looking into the eyes of an animal that if it weren’t for your organization providing a safe haven for them, they would not be alive today. There’s a weight that it carries. Not because you succeeded in rescuing their life, but because every time you look at them you think of the millions of others that weren’t so lucky.
I got to interact with a rescue horse who had survived abuse and had long term behavior challenges because of it. Just like dogs, a horse has an innate personality but they can also be molded by their treatment and experiences. My contact with dogs and horses has taught me that every animal has different needs when working with them. It is our primary job as photographers to make sure each animal feels safe and respected while we document them.
This personal project kept me inspired and driven. It gave me amazing experience and challenged my abilities. I got to work with new breeds and personalities. I got to play with new lighting and colors. It absolutely made me better at my job.
“I am passionate about this profession because I enjoy being a listener and source of support for those sharing stories of trauma, life challenges, resiliency, hope. Making a human connection with others while providing a space for individuals to be vulnerable in an otherwise world that can feel chaotic and unsafe at times motivates me to show up for them consistently.”
Today marks four years since I filed for my business license with the state. Four whole years!
If you hadn't noticed, I have learned a lot in that time. I work really hard to be very good at what I do. I am not a half-ass kind of person and I am going to make sure I can do a good job. I take every opportunity to learn something and I invest in my education. Skill and practice are integral to doing my job well.
Witch is your favorite? It started as one model… simple. Then I had two, and then three. At this point I had decided to do a sort of boho-witch theme. I began researching costumes and culture. I discovered that in the Wicca belief system, each point of the pentagram represents an element. Air. Spirit. Earth. Fire. Water.
Now I had to have five models.
I have many adventures as a second shooter. I shoot weddings all over Ohio, not only for myself, but with other photographers. I have an awesome network of wedding photographers who give me work when I am not busy with my own clients. This season I have 17 dates set up to second shoot. That is a lot of Saturdays, but I truly love it. Everyone I work for does things differently and I often learn something new. Being a second shooter allows me to experiment with creative techniques and hone my skills.
Kerri and her husband, Jordan, are expecting their first child this Christmas! They are very excited about welcoming this little girl into their lives. Kerri and Jordan are some of the most generous and loving people I know and I am positive that they will show their baby all the magical things life has to offer.
