Halloween Themed Photo Shoot. Five Witches.
Witch is your favorite?
When it comes to themed shoots and photographic art projects, my schedule only affords me the ability to do something like this once or twice a year. Halloween happens to be one of the most hyped holidays of the year. It also falls during the peak busy season for us photographers. On a whim, I decided I wanted to do something for fun that embraced the October spirit.
It started as one model… simple. Then I had two, and then three. At this point I had decided to do a sort of boho-witch theme. I began researching costumes and culture. I discovered that in the Wicca belief system, each point of the pentagram represents an element. Air. Spirit. Earth. Fire. Water.
Now I had to have five models.
We spent the afternoon together getting all done up and designing each witch’s costume. Smoke bombs, dry ice, skulls, and potions were packed to go. Everyone involved was excited and wonderful to work with. It is really inspiring to see others willing to give up hours of their time to allow your own vision to come to life.
I am typically an extremely organized person. I plan to the last detail. But when I shoot, I never let a list of poses or shots rule my process. I love to go with the flow and document what comes naturally. I feel like this encourages the most creativity along with fostering a genuine experience for everyone involved.
Here are my five ladies of dark magic…
